Which Password Can You Remove?
Permissions Password (Owner Password) — YES
If you know the permissions password (the one that controls printing, copying, editing), our tool removes it completely. The resulting PDF has no restrictions — print, copy, edit, annotate freely.
This is the most common use case: you received a "view-only" PDF, you have the permissions password (or it was shared with you), you need to edit/print/copy it.
Open Password (User Password) — YES (if you know it)
If you know the open password, you can unlock the file — our tool decrypts it and saves an unencrypted copy. You must enter the open password to load the file in our tool first.
Both Passwords — YES
If the PDF has both an open password and a permissions password, and you know both, our tool removes both. Result: completely unencrypted, unrestricted PDF.

What You Can't Remove
Unknown Open Password
If you don't know the open password, you can't even load the file. Our tool doesn't crack passwords. AES-256 with PBKDF2 (64000 iterations) is computationally infeasible to brute-force. Don't believe tools claiming "instant PDF password removal" — they either only work on weak/old encryption (RC4, 40-bit) or they're lying.
Unknown Permissions Password (if open password known)
You can open the file (you know the open password), but you can't remove restrictions without the permissions password. Our tool requires it. Some viewers (like Chrome's PDF viewer) ignore permissions — you might be able to print via "Print to PDF" in Chrome, creating an unrestricted copy. But that's a viewer quirk, not decryption.
Certificate-Based Encryption (Digital ID)
Some enterprise PDFs use certificate encryption (public key / private key) instead of passwords. Our tool doesn't support this. You need the private key (in your certificate store) to decrypt.
DRM / IRM Protected Files
Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management, Azure Information Protection, custom DRM — these aren't standard PDF encryption. They phone home to license servers. Our tool can't touch them.
